Documentary wedding photographer based in Edinburgh, Scotland

An expert of creative, honest, and authentic photography. As a professional photographer, I capture genuine emotions with a documentary-style approach - focusing on narrative storytelling. I care about your wedding, elopement or celebration as much as you do, appreciating the history, art, and architecture, as well as the natural beauty of Scotland.

I cover weddings, elopements and portraits across Scotland, from Edinburgh to the Highlands and Islands - including iconic destinations such as Glen Etive and Glencoe, Rothiemurcus, Achmelvich Beach and beyond. With over 15 years’ experience, I’m inspired by Scotland’s rich history and stunning landscapes - blending these elements to create timeless, unique photographs. My aim is for natural and relaxed images, allowing the authentic moments to unfold.

  • Olivia and Jon, The Old Course

“Robbie was warm, kind and put us at ease, as well as being easy to communicate with in the months leading up to the day. Robbie’s responsiveness was especially important as we were trying to plan a wedding in Scotland from New York. Robbie took the time to get to know us and understand where we’d want our portraits. Most importantly, the photographs are absolutely stunning and we are so delighted with them. Robbie somehow managed to be everywhere over the course of the day and the photos really reflect the happiness and amazing atmosphere. We would 100% recommend Robbie”

  • Style

Natural and individual; I like to reflect the personalities of couples, through my photography - in an authentic way. I document the flow and mood of each event in a relaxed way

  • Approach

It’s not only about capturing the best photographs possible; the narrative, including location, is considered as important. It is also a priority to me to understand how the experience feels throughout. I’m here to provide advice and support along the way

  • Advice

From finding perfect viewpoints, to making the day your own, I have been through the journey with many couples and can offer my own insights. Most of all, your wedding should be an enjoyable day with family and friends, or even just the two of you. I am here to ensure you have an amazing time with beautiful and honest photography to look back on

  • Caitlin and Allan, Barnbougle Castle

“Just wow! One month on from our wedding and already Robbie has sent us all the photographs and they are beyond anything we could've imagined. Neither myself nor my husband are comfortable being photographed but you wouldn't know it from our wedding photos. Robbie put us totally at ease and not only captured stunning photos of us, but also wonderful photographs of our guests, too. He captured the emotion and feelings of the day, and his enthusiasm and passion for his work is second to none. A true master of his craft”

  • About Robbie

With 15 years’ experience, I’ve covered over 500 weddings and events while with Duke Scotland. Working together since 2009, we continue to collaborate on projects, offering couples and commercial clients the flexibility of having two photographers available. I currently specialise in weddings, elopements and portraits; I’m also very interested in landscape, architectural and product photography. I was born in Perthshire and have lived in Scotland all my life. My creative design background includes studies in Landscape Architecture - Edinburgh and Product Design - Glasgow. I’m dedicated to capturing your personal stories and look forward to hearing your creative ideas - bringing them to life through beautiful galleries, albums, prints and framed presentations

  • Inspiration

I value integrity, transparency, and going the extra mile. My work is influenced by photography icons such as W. Eugene Smith, whose legacy speaks for itself, and Philip-Lorca diCorcia, whose vibrant colour film photography and ability to capture candid moments, like in his 'Heads' series, bring me a lot of joy. I’m also inspired by Elliott Erwitt, particularly his quote: 'I am obsessed with dogs—because they remind me of people, but with more hair.' Other photographers who currently inspire me include Nadav Kander, Martin Schoeller, and Phil Penman, whose work I enjoy following on Instagram. Additionally, the rich history, landscapes, and architecture of Scotland naturally influence my creative process
